New season
of Table Tennis to start soon
Wakefield Table
Tennis Association is preparing itself for another season
of table tennis which is due to start in October, but of course
there’s a lot of preparatory work to do before the season
can ‘kick off’.
Last year we had
17 teams all trying to win trophies in the 2 Divisions, and
we hope to increase that number this year. Already we have
had inquiries from new individuals, and we also hope that
at least one of the teams playing last year will be providing
a second team.
Very recently on
BBC’s GRANDSTAND there has been table tennis shown and
the quality was very high indeed – the commentators
were also talking about the ball being hit at 100 miles per
hour!! We don’t hit the ball that hard but we do enjoy
a good hard game against opponents determined to win if at
all possible. We have a wide range of player. Some players
are ranked in England and play in National Competitions. Some
players also play for the City in the Yorkshire Leagues. Wakefield
currently has 3 teams playing in the Yorkshire League and
we hope a fourth team will join us. We also have a player
who is representing Great Britain in the Para-Olympic Games.
The bulk of players however are people just like you and me
who enjoy the sport of table tennis, enjoy the competition,
and enjoy the socialising which comes with these matches.
Wakefield has a graded coach who helps people develop their
skills and encourages them in playing the sport – currently
he is fully booked but with the help of Regional Development
we may be able to expand this service.
If there’s
anyone out there who is interested in getting involved in
the sport and wants to take that interest further please contact
